Welcome to
Veganteen.net, the online network for vegan teens! A Vegan at Band Camp My decision to join the color guard brought many new opprotunities, like making new friends, learning a new skill, and (of coarse) attending band camp. Most schools have a band camp where the marching band practices all day at the school. My school is a little different because our band camp is a week staying in the mountains. When I was thinking about band camp, my biggest concern was what I would eat. There are a few other vegetarians in the band but, as far as I know, I'm the only vegan. Supposedly, the camp would be providing all of our meals and accomidating for dietary needs. I was a little skeptical, but decided to bring a few snacks and wait and see what meals I would be eating. When I arrived at band camp, I had decided to write down everything that I ate so that it would be fresh in my mind when I returned. After the meal, however, it became clear that that would not be necessary. What wonderful delicassy awaited me at dinner? Salad. What tantilizing feast was my lunch? Salad. What mouth watering, scrumptious dish was for breakfast? Fruit salad, and maybe some dry cereal if I was lucky. No dressing, no olives, no croutons, just salad. Occasionally, I could have something from the side dish (bread, corn, beans, etc.). Mostly, though, it was just plain salad. My snacks were quickly devoured, not always by me (those were my oreos! Thanks, guys.) and I ended up being a rabbit for the week. Actually, it was pretty fun. But I never want to see another salad again. |
